Principal's Message

Dear Orangewood Families:

Hello and welcome to another school year at Orangewood School in the Washington Elementary School District of Phoenix.

I am Ms. Colleen Mahoney, the new Principal at Orangewood.  I have been in education for 30 years, with 24 years of classroom experience.  I have taught in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Colorado.  I am committed to excellence in education and supporting students and teachers as they do the difficult classroom work every day.  I bring to Orangewood a strong background in school improvement processes, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Response to Intervention (RtI), which is a process for meeting individual students needs and addressing learning gaps to keep students on track for mastery of the Common Core State Standards.

At Orangewood, we have many positive initiatives in place to help students succeed, which we refer to as “Cougar Pride.”  From our school-wide rules of respect for self, others, learning, and property to our challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, we feel confident that we are offering a first class, 21st century academic experience for all of our students, Kindergarten through Grade 8.  Our staff is highly-qualified and dedicated to doing “what it takes” to help children thrive in the educational setting.

Orangewood also offers many co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities such as performing arts, sports, clubs, and after school activities.  Stop by our school office to learn more about these programs.

At Orangewood, we strive to maximize all learning and growing opportunities for our students and families.  You are invited to visit our school and see first-hand the many wonderful things happening at Orangewood School.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
